Pickie Fun Park and Northern Ireland Children's Hospice
This summer Pickie Fun Park organised a 'Design a Swan' competition in aid of Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.
Primary seven pupils in the Ards and North Down area were invited to design a swan of their dreams which would be printed onto one of the parks iconic Pedalo Swans for the duration of summer. Proceeds would then be donated to the charity at Pickie's End of Summer Party.
The park was overwhelmed by the response, receiving over 500 entries from more than 25 schools. Picking just one winner proved extremely hard for the Pickie Judges.
Olivia Morrow of West Winds Primary School was the competition winner, her use of colour, pattern and strong message were exactly what the judges were looking for.
James Young of Abbey Primary School created a combined logo which stood out from the crowd. The judges felt it perfectly displayed the relationship between Pickie Fun Park and their chosen charity for the summer. It was placed on the winning swan along with a small description.
The park raised a total of £1074.47 for NICH and look forward to working with the charity again in future.
Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page to check when Kalpa Hallsworth will next be visiting the park to provide henna!
A bit about henna:
Henna is a dye prepared from the plant Lawsonia inermis, also known as hina, the henna tree, the mignonette tree, and the Egyptian privet.
The name henna also refers to the temporary body art (staining) based on those dyes. Henna has been used since antiquity to dye skin, hair and fingernails, as well as fabrics including silk, wool and leather.
The temporary body art lasts up to 1 week with white henna art lasting only a couple of days.
It's back, our highly anticipated Summer long Facebook check in competition! Win prizes every week by simply checking in at the park every time you visit, this will enter you into our weekly prize draw.
